About FireWatch AU
Official fires and warnings from every state and territory, fire danger ratings, total fire bans, satellite heat, road closures and more on one map. Free and unofficial.
Not an official warning service
FireWatch AU is not an official warning service and is not affiliated with any agency. Information may be delayed or incomplete. Always follow the directions of emergency services. In an emergency, call Triple Zero (000).

How the web map works
The map reads the same copies of each agency's feed that the FireWatch AU app reads, kept by our server, which asks each publisher once for everyone so no agency's site is flooded. Your browser never contacts the agencies, and they never see you. Every source says when it was last confirmed with its publisher; one that is down or out of date says so, so a failed feed never looks like "no fires". Warning levels are shown only when an agency issued one.
Every layer on the web map can be on at once. A few (the rain radar, the weather heatmaps, burnt areas and potential spread) are in the app only for now.
Data sources and credits
Each publisher's information remains theirs and is shown as published, with the credit, licence and disclaimer it asks for.

Privacy
The site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising. If you use "Near me", your location stays in your browser: it is used to sort the list and centre the map, and is never sent to us. Your layer and map choices are kept in your browser only. So the map's data isn't harvested, the map page gives your browser a short-lived pass to it (an expiry time, no identifier), and how often each connection asks for data is counted for a minute and never stored.
If you sign up on the apps or API page, we keep what you typed (your email and the answers you chose) to tell you about them, and a salted hash of your connection for an hour to limit repeated sign-ups, never the address itself. Reply to any email from us to be removed.
